Feel free to leave any thoughts or recollections of Barry below.  Some people who weren’t able to be at the funeral sent messages and condolences via email which Andy and the family were grateful to receive.  They are aware that this page has been created so will no doubt drop in from time to time.

So if you have a particular memory of Barry, or simply wish to offer condolences then please do.  There is no doubt that hashes will be a duller place without him.

  3. Barry and Andrea were the ones who always made us feel welcome at Polygon events when sometimes we did not know many people. His friendly nature and welcome smile will stay with us forever. We were not in Cyprus to say goodbye but I have been along to the place where he is now for a chat.

  7. Memories

My special thoughts with you, I would like to share,
Thoughts of my dad, who in my heart will always be there,
I want to tell you, although you already know, just how much he will be missed as we all loved him so,
So many memories, too many to tell, if you knew my dad you will have them as well.
Take your memories with you and share them with friends, I shall keep mine close to my heart until it begins to mend.

  8. Thankyou all for your very special words of condolence and support.

He was and always will be “the love of my life” To know this man was to love him! Every day with him was a treasure!

How lucky I have been to have had his love since I was 13 years old and it will continue forever.

    God bless him

    Andrea

    • Andrea I have been looking for you for years everytime I come to Harrogate I ask people “where have Andrea and Barry gone” I have stumbled across this website and sadly found that barry has gone AWOL. Please get in touch with me I would love to meet up.
      Your childhood friend

  9. WHO ATE ALL THE PIES?
After a Ph3 hash, as we sometimes do the on-on was at someones house and most people provided food. All Barry would talk about was the curry pies that he had made, and “wait till you taste on of my curry pies”.
As you do ladies first, form a queue men last. By the time I got to Barry’s pies they were all gone. I conveyed my displeasure to Barry and he said “told you, you’ve got to be quick”.
The following week Ph3 day Barry came up to me with a plate of his curry pies,”there we are Joe I made these especially for you as you missed out last week”.well, what a mate. the genuine article!
Wish I could eat some of your pies now Barry. What an irreplaceable character. Will miss you as sure as everyone will. Rest in peace.

  10. What sad news! Even in the few weeks that we have known Barry we have come to recognise his infectious enthusiasm and support for the hash. He will clearly be missed. Our thoughts are with Andrea and his family.

  11. From reading others’ comments we can see that everyone else felt the same about Barry as we did. In the short time we had the privilege of knowing him, Barry always had a smile and a kind word for everybody. Other people just felt better when he was around. We will all miss him.

  12. Barry, he gave us such a shock that night and I prayed the
    outcome would be different.
I will miss that smile and friendly nature so much.
He always reminded me of my Dad at his age, playing the bones and spoons and harmonica and those great recitals.
These will be wonderful memories for the future and Andrea
you will have so many wonderful ones of your own and they will be the things that will keep you and your family strong in the future. My thoughts are with you.

  13. Barry was a true gentleman, always with a smile on his face, he lit up a room with his presence, always kind and helpful.
It was an honour to have known him and he will be sadly missed. A shining light has dimmed but there is a new shining star in Gods heaven. on-on

  14. Barry was a lovely guy and 1st meeting onwards with Barry and Andrea was fun all the way. It is hard to believe he has passed and we send lots of love to Andrea and family who will be a great comfort to each other

  15. Tribute to Barry Blaney

Barry! That doesn’t sound right, it was always Barry and Andy and oh how he loved his Andrea, adored her since he was fifteen. He was proud of his family and would wax lyrical about his sons, daughter and grandchildren. Barry valued his friends, of which there was no shortage because Barry was one of lifes givers. If a job needed doing on the Hash Barry’s hand was the first to go up, Hash beer, fundraising, BBQ’s , he was there.

When we went on “Planet Blaney” fun was the order of the day, he wanted us all to have a good time and we did. He made us laugh dressing up as and elf on the fun run, the yellow dress run, a bridesmaid at the Hash wedding, a bandit at the mexican night or just reciting his little poems. Sometimes he would say “Sheila aint we lucky having all this” surrounded by all his friends. I don’t think that it was luck. I only knew Barry for five years but my life has been richer for having him in it.

  16. We had already sent an email, but here goes again…..
How much we will miss that happy, jolly man and we already know that you Andrea are the strong beautiful lady we expected.
We will so miss Barry when we return to Larnaca but we are so pleased that you will still be there.

    Much love
    Gwen & Bill

  17. We have so many happy memories of times spent with Andrea &Barry. His lovely smile, his stories, playing golf with him was always fun, in fact he was always a delight to be with. He truly was one of Gods lovely people. Our sympathy and love go to Andrea &Her Family Always missed, but will never be forgotten x x

  18. We were so shocked and sorry to hear that Barry had died. We have many fond memories of him: his party tricks (forks and playing cards come to mind!) and his jokes that were always told by a great story teller.

He made a great bridesmaid at our hash wedding as well as making that fantastic wedding cake stand.

    Always remembered by us both

  19. Barry was a thoroughly nice guy. Always willing to help out, always a smile, great fun and the leading light in any social gathering. On-On Del Boy.

Andrea and the family have lost a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. Barry was so very proud of them all. He will leave a big gap in their lives but we know he will always be watching over them. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

  20. Dell Boy – always chirpy and a wit with a smiling face, never a bad word, ever willing to help, will be missed by one and all.

  21. Kind, witty, generous, gentle, warm and fun. BB….. another brilliant star is in heaven. God bless you mate. So shocking, so sad.

  22. Barry’s ever-present smile, his willingness to help, his cheery attitude will all be missed terribly.

Having known him for almost all of my life I can only say that the world will be much duller without him.

    Mandy, Wollygogs

  23. Losing Barry has taken a very bright corner away from us all. Ever the optimist, ever ready with a relevant quip, ever ready to help. A huge loss to all who knew him. My thoughts are with Andrea and his family who are all clearly ‘chips off the block’.

    • It was with great sadness that I heard of your passing Barry, you will be sadly missed, you lit up everyones lives with your wonderful personality and smile.

We have mourned your death but from now on we will celebrate your life.

To Andrea and family – Soon sad memories will fade & only happy ones will remain.
